We are looking for a dedicated Senior Mental Health Nurse for a full-time, permanent role, specialising in both Dementia and Eating Disorders.
This position will involve ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained throughout every aspect of a patient or service user's stay with us, whilst ensuring cost-effectiveness, and overseeing the nursing team in the lead nurse's absence.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a multidisciplinary team (MDT) and manage a patient caseload with a key nurse, HCA, and MDT representatives.
Take charge of specific service areas, such as self-harm management and clinic room upkeep.
Deliver evidence-based nursing care, advocate for patients' privacy and dignity, and address any patient or relative concerns promptly.
Ensure high infection control standards and administer medications according to policies.
Report significant nursing issues to the lead nurse and adhere to all relevant policies and guidelines.
Foster effective communication and relationships with hospital staff and consultants.
Maintain confidentiality and comply with the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and Children Act as necessary.
Skills & requirements
As a Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will hold a registration on the NMC.
To excel in this role, you will be required to maintain up-to-date skills and knowledge in nursing practice. This encompasses a wide array of competencies, including but not limited to, an understanding of various mental health disorders, therapeutic communication techniques, and crisis intervention strategies.
A significant aspect of your role will involve the ability to plan care effectively and manage a personal caseload. This means you will assess the needs of your patients, develop individualised care plans that address their specific mental health issues, and regularly review and adjust these plans based on their progress and feedback. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists, to ensure a holistic approach to patient care.
A core understanding of ongoing professional development requirements is essential for a Registered Mental Health Nurse. This involves not only engaging in continuing education and training but also reflecting on your practice and seeking opportunities for growth. You must have a thorough understanding of private medicine and the relevant legislative frameworks that govern mental health nursing. This includes knowledge of the Mental Health Act, safeguarding policies, and ethical considerations in mental health care. Familiarity with these legal and ethical guidelines ensures that you operate within the law and uphold the rights and dignity of your patients.
