We are looking for an experienced Theatre Porter to assist in the provision of quality planned care for pre-operative patients.

Description

Reporting to the Theatre Manager, you will assist in the provision of quality planned care for patients during their pre-operative phase of care.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare the appropriate equipment prior to the start of a list, which may include wheel chairs and trolleys, undertaking the appropriate checks to ensure the equipment is clean and used safely.
  • Receive the patient collection slip from the Registered Practitioner and collect the patients from the ward area.
  • Assist in the transfer from the theatre to the Recovery area as required.
  • Accompany the Registered Practitioner and the patient back to the ward area.
  • Assist in the safe transfer and positioning of the patient.
  • Communicate appropriately with others involved in the care of the patient, including answering the telephone in a professional manner, while taking and relaying accurate messages
  • Monitor the specific items within the department, such as masks, fluids in the warming cabinet/fridge and theatre blues, replenishing as required and reordering as appropriate
  • Ensure any accidents or complaints are fully documented and that the appropriate manager is informed
  • Complete all written documentation, in a timely manner and to an acceptable level.
  • Assist in the cleaning of the appropriate area after the completion of the operating list.
  • Assist in the safe and appropriate removal of clinical waste from the department
  • Support the administrative requirements of the department, including the shredding of sensitive information, the photocopying of documents and the replenishing of stationary and forms.
  • Monitor specific pieces of equipment as instructed, such as the temperature of the fridges.
  • Collect and return items to and from the main hospital reception and other external hospital departments.
  • When/if necessary monitor par stock levels of consumable items, place appropriate orders, receive orders and replenish the stock in the department.
  • Suggest ways in which the delivery of care could be improved to the theatre manager.
  • Promote and ensure an environment conducive to the continuing prevention and control of infection for all staff, patients and visitors.
  • Be aware of and comply with all infection prevention and control policies and ensure best practice is maintained to ensure low infection rates.
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care.
  • Contribute to quality improvement
  • Apply legislation, policies and procedures correctly.
  • Respect the patient’s dignity, privacy, wishes and beliefs.
