About the Role

As one of the chefs at Schoen Clinic York, you will lead the catering team to provide the specially designed and prescribed menus which have been created by the dietetic team for our patients and provide meals to staff who are supporting the patients within the dining room settings.
As part of your role, you will be required to undertake the following duties:
General preparation of meals and snacks, following the principles of food hygiene and observes all infection control policies for food handling, storage including hand washing and uniform management;
Assist in the serving of meals to the patients in the designated dining rooms.
Ensure that food is prepared and served following recipes and menus written by the Dietetic team.
Prepare and provide food for patients with dietary restrictions as a result of religious, cultural, allergens or intolerances.
Ensure that meals are given out promptly.
Ensure that portion control is followed for meals and snacks.
Ensure that current hygiene regulations are adhered to and all relevant documentation is completed; paying particular attention to temperatures of food during storage, preparation, cooking and service.
Ensure that all waste, including food waste, is disposed of in line with Health and Safety and Schoen Clinic’s policies.
Skills & requirements
To excel in this position, you must possess the necessary qualifications and skills related to food safety and preparation, including a Level 2 or equivalent in food safety, as well as a Level 3 or equivalent in supervising food safety.
You will be required to have a solid understanding of nutritional standards, and knowledge of special dietary needs, including religious and cultural considerations, on top of this, you will have awareness of hygiene standards, Health and Safety in the kitchen, COSHH, and HACCP.
Effective communication with patients, carers, and a multi-disciplinary team, along with experience in meeting deadlines, handling pressure, and stock control is also necessary.

Schoen Clinic York is a highly specialised Hospital for adults in the North of England. We are currently based on the ground floor of Minster Grange as an eating disorder hospital and since September 2024 we have expanded our services to cover the full building with other service lines such as Dementia care. We are situated just off Haxby Road which is 10 minutes’ drive from York Train Station and 4 miles from the A64.
